What views per hour tells you

Total views reward old videos. Views per hour shows what is working now: a 2-day-old upload at 2,000 views an hour is a stronger signal than a year-old video with a million views. It is most useful in a video's first week, and most useful against the same channel's other uploads.

Older videos

After the first week, plain views per hour overstates a video's pace, because its launch is still in the number. Outvyr divides by a slowly growing factor: 1 at one week, about 2 at ten weeks, under 3 at a year. The calculator shows that figure when video A is older than a week and uses it for the comparison.

To compare a video with its channel instead of another video, use the outlier score calculator.

Questions

What is VPH on YouTube?

Views per hour: a video's views divided by the hours since it was published. It shows how fast a video is growing, which says more than total views while a video is new.

What is a good views per hour?

It depends on the channel's size, so compare a video with the same channel's other uploads at the same age. As a rough guide Outvyr calls 150+ views per hour surging and 1,000+ exploding.

Why does VPH drop as a video gets older?

Most videos get the bulk of their views in the first days. Dividing by every hour since upload spreads that launch over quiet weeks. Outvyr scales the number for videos older than a week so it reflects the pace today.

Can I see VPH without calculating it?

Yes. Outvyr shows views per hour next to the outlier score on every YouTube thumbnail, and Pro can sort a page by it.
